John was baptised 13 May 1794 in Redmire, son of James Stringer and

Craddock, daughter of George Craddock and Maria Tomlin. Mary was
baptised 20th March 1803 in Wensley. Together they had four children,
all of whom we see in the 1841 census:

- James, baptised 4th December 1832, Redmire
- John, baptised 7th December 1834, Redmire

By 1851, Elizabeth had left home and was living next door, married to
Ralph Ryder (*). Maria was not listed on the census in
Redmire, although she was still alive. John and Mary still had both of
their sons at home, who were now working as Lead miners:

Raw Stringer-Calvert, born in 1858.
Dorothy Parkinson was more than a lodger, being the daughter of Roger and
Grace Calvert, baptised 28 January 1782 in Richmond. Grace Calvert was
the sister of Elizabeth Calvert, James' grandmother, of whom more
information is presented in the Calvert chapter (*).
John Stringer-Calvert's wife Mary died on 3 January 1865, and was
buried in Redmire on 6 January. By 1871, John's children had all left
home and a young couple were lodging with him. Samuel's wife Mary is
Mary Rider, daughter of Ralph Rider and Elizabeth Stringer, thereby
John Stringer-Calvert's granddaughter.
