Old John is still cutting wood, and passing on the family trade
to two of his adult sons:
Name | Relationship | Age | Occupation | Birthplace |
MOORE John | Head, Married | 74 | Wood Cutter | Redmire |
MOORE Alice | Wife, Married | 74 | | Redmire |
MOORE William | Son, Unmarried | 44 | Wood Cutter | Redmire |
MOORE Septimus | Son, Unmarried | 34 | Wood Cutter | Redmire |
MOORE Jane | Granddaughter, Unmarried | 19 | | Redmire |
|
Jane is a daughter of John's son James, by Margaret . She was
baptized in Grinton, 13 March 1842.
John's son Septimus is the only child at home in 1871, with
his new wife:
Name | Relationship | Age | Occupation | Birthplace |
MOORE John | Head, Widower | 83 | Wood Cutter | Wensley |
MOORE Septimus | Son, Married | 44 | Wood Cutter | Redmire |
MOORE Isabella | Daughter in Law, Married | 46 | | Redmire |
|
Septimus married Isabella (Bella) Airey in December 1863. Isabella
was from Clifton, Thornton Watlass: banns were published at Redmire
and it is assumed they were married in Clifton. Being born in Redmire
is a mistake: see later census returns for more details.
William has also married and left home:
Name | Relationship | Age | Occupation | Birthplace |
MOORE William | Head, Married | 54 | Wood Cutter | Redmire |
MOORE Jane | Wife, Married | 51 | | Spenithorn |
|
Their brother James is still making clogs, with some of the family
still at home:

James has reverse-inherited his son James' occupation from the last
census:

MOORE Maria | Wife, Married | 65 | Carrier's Wife | Preston |
NORRIS Margaret E. | Granddaughter | 5 | Scholar | Stockton-on-Tees, DUR |

MOORE Miriam | Daughter | 7 | Scholar | Salter, LAN |
LAMBERT John Jer. | Son | 2 | | Redmire |
LAMBERT Jeremiah | Son | 1 | | Redmire |
|
Alice Lambert is nee Moore, married to Jeremiah Lambert 3 June 1877,
Alice being of Accrington. It's likely that Miriam is an illegitimate
daughter of Alice.
The Moore population of Redmire has declined to 5 by 1891, all of
whom we've seen before:
Name | Relationship | Age | Occupation | Birthplace |
MOOR William | Head, Married | 73 | Farmer | Redmire |
MOOR Jane | Wife, Married | 71 | | Spenithorn |

Maria is now a widow, James having died 24 February 1886, and

grandchildren is staying:
