1851 Census

The first Miller family arrived in Redmire during the 1840s, and worked as Stonemasons in the village throughout the census years. Here we see William with his family:

William's parentage is unknown. In August 1840 (banns read at Redmire) he married Ann Coates, daughter of John Coates and Jane, nee Horn. Ann was baptized at Redmire 4 April 1822.

Their eldest child, Jane, was baptized at Aysgarth 4 April 1841. Their following children, baptized in Redmire are:

Thomas Miller married Margaret Park, 13 April 1890 in Redmire, Margaret being the daughter of Thomas Park, and Isabella, nee Craddock. Their son William was baptized 31 May 1891 in Redmire.

William died 19 October 1883, and was buried in Redmire 23 October. His headstone reads:

In loving memory of William Miller of Redmire who died 19 October 1883 aged 65 years. Also of Ann his wife who died 13 June 1904 aged 82 years. Also of John their son who died 30 January 1873 aged 26 years. Also William their son who died on the 9th and was interred at Darwin Cemetary 11 November 1874 aged 29 years. Also of James their son who died 7 March 1875 aged 17 years.

1901 Census

In affectionate remembrance of George Miller of Redmire who died 7 November 1890 aged 47 years. Also of Annie his daughter who died 24 March 1877 aged 16 months. Also of Annie his daughter who died 1 September 1898 aged 15 years. Also Thomas his son who died 27 October 1907 aged 38 years. Also of Eleanor wife of the above who died 27 March 1919 aged 76 years.

Herbert married Ellen Flynn, of the parish of Middlesbrough St. Paul's, 4 June 1899 in Redmire. Their son James was baptized in Redmire 11 March 1900. The birthplaces for James, Ann and James would appear to have been recorded incorrectly.
