Thomas was born about 1777--his age varies across the census returns. He married Mary Russell, 1 March 1825, Mary being born about 1784.

There are two possibilities for Mary, there being two Mary Russells baptized in Castle Bolton within a year. The first was born 17 November 1783, and baptized 23 November, the daughter of Matthew Russell and Elizabeth, nee Robinson. The second possibility was born 31 May 1784 and baptized 4 July, daughter of James Russell and Elizabeth, nee Horn.

Nothing is known of the younger Mary.

Mary's husband Thomas was buried in Redmire 30 April 1851 aged 74. Mary died shortly after this census, being buried 9 June 1861 aged 76.
