George was baptized in Aysgarth 27 April 1862, son of James Tate and Margaret, nee Routh. George (at the time a widower) married Alice Brown at Aysgarth, 10 December 1892. Alice was likely illegitimate, as she stated her father as Thomas Scott at her marriage, when a spinster.
