Mary's husband, Joseph Shields was buried in Redmire, 9 April 1869. Their son John, recently living in Redmire, died the same year and was buried 1 August 1869.

This census noted William as an imbecile.

The grandchildren seen here are children of Thomas and Ann, Thomas being Mary's son, Elizabeth baptized 25 September 1864 and Joseph 4 July 1855. Joseph married Elizabeth Kildon, 14 September 1879, Elizabeth being the daughter of Joseph Kildon and Elizabeth, nee Storey, having been baptized 20 September 1857. Their first child seen above, William Thomas, was baptized 6 February 1881.

1891 Census

Mary Shields (nee Render) died shortly after the last census, and was buried in Redmire 28 November 1881. By 1891, her son William is living with Elizabeth Russell:
