Thomas Wilson Fowler was born in Castle Bolton, and baptized there 26 September 1809, the son of James Fowler (formerly the husband of Alice, nee Robinson) and Isabella, nee Wilson (formerly the wife of William Storey). He was of Houghton-le-Spring (near Darlington, Co. Durham) when he married Margaret Russell, 25 September 1832 in Redmire.
  1. Nancy: baptized 5 February 1834
  2. Isabella: baptized 17 December 1837
  3. William: baptized 10 July 1842
  4. Matthew: baptized 22 September 1844
  5. Thomas: baptized 27 September 1846
Thomas and Margaret were of Castle Bolton in the baptisms of Nancy and Isabella, and Redmire thereafter.

There is no baptism for a James Fowler, but given Thomas and Margaret's marriage date, he could well be an illegitimate child, or a child of a previous marriage. There is a baptism in Redmire, 29 May 1832, for James Russell, an illegitimate son of Peggy Russell. Perhaps this is him.

There is also no baptism for Margaret, but looking at the Grinton census for 1851, to where the family must have moved between 1846 and 1849, Margaret was born elsewhere. By 1871, this family were in Bellerby.
